Is Emperor considered Black Metal or Symphonic Black Metal or both?

I think if you look at Nightshade Eclipse; that would be considered Black Metal.  However, their later albums such as Equilibrium IX would be more symphonic after they dropped the corpse paint.  What do you think?

Also I was just wondering why is there lots of aluminium in the ground, way more than iron, but it is more expensive to buy. It probably has to do with reactivity and extracting from ore costs.
