Where can I get a detailed, complete electronics kit?

While in college, I took an intro electronics course for Physicists. We had a large breadboard with its own several options for a DC supply, and then all the resistors, capacitors, transistors, and whatnot to complete all the projects in our rather large electronics book.

I'm trying to get back into electronics, and I'm having a hard time finding a good kit. Most of the ones now are for children and are just essentially connecting wires to preset components, or they are too specialized, specifically for radios, photometers, robotics, etc. What I'm looking for is a large breadboard with a DC supply that plugs into a wall outlet, and bags of many types of the basic components needed to make intro circuits (and I'd buy more expensive things like timers and microprocessors on my own later). I'm willing to spend several hundred dollars, with room to buy more components later on.

Any suggestions?

I was in the same boat you are in. I finally built my own custom test bench.
On a 24 inch by 24 inch piece of plywood. I mounted enough bread board sections
to fill the space.
I removed the individual bread board sections from their aluminum bases.
These sections, I then remounted on a piece of 10 gage aluminum sheet 24 inch by 24 inch.
The finished test bench looks very professional.

I bought a transformer and two voltage regulators, T0-5 cases.
Built my own printed circuit for the power supply.
I have 12 VDC
+ 5VDC
- 5 VDC

I spent some time looking and did not find much in the way of what you want.
I did find a Breadboard Voltage Regulator Kit for +5 VDC that will plug in to the bread board.

Take a look at these searches, maybe you will find what you want without having to build it from scratch.

Edit I found this about 14 inch by 10 inch breadboard
at Digi-Key.
