Which brand of headphones should I invest in?
I've ruled out skullcandy because they are about style and not quality and Bose is too expensive.
I've thought about sennheiser and sony, but I have no idea which is a better investment. And I know there are bunch of other brands I haven't even looked at yet such as Koss.
Any suggestions or tips? Keep in mind I want headphones, not earphones. A lot of companies only focus on the earbuds.

Well that depends on the price range that you are planning. However you might want to take a look at these.
$10-$30
KOSS ksc75 ... SQ very good... fast acting.. ample bass
JVC Marshmallows
Sennheiser MX500 - cheap earbuds but surprising sound quality for the price.
Creative EP630 - excellent first foray into IEMs.
$30-$60
Sennheiser PX-100 - good bass response with clear mids and highs, very common
Koss PortaPro- almost same SQ as the PX100, benefits a lot from the kramer mod
Sennheiser CX300 - balanced sound with nice bass for a nice price.
Philips SHP5400 - clear mids and tight bass considering the price and easily found
$60-$120
Sennheiser CX95
Grado Alessandro MS1 - very fast acting and revealing transducers
Grado SR60 - the best one for the pricepoint!
V-Moda Vibe -Trendy, Bass heavy earphones.
AKG K81/K518 DJ - one word: bass.
Shure SCL2
Sennheiser HD 238 - PX 100 on steroids

Shure SE210 - Good on mid/high, mediocre bass; excellent fit kit and isolation.
Sennheiser HD 555 - definitely good cans without the need for an amp to be driven properly. Rich, balanced and can be modded to sound like its bigger brother HD 595

Grado sr325i/s* and Grado Alessandro MS2i - bass ample and with pleasing control... mids&highs revealing... mids aggressive enough for vocals
*if you find them too bright, the reversed bowls mod makes them sound warmer, while flat pads increase the bass, very satisfying impact.

Denon D5000 - Circumaural, Closed, Wood, Fullsized. Excellent Bass Extension.
Sleek SA6 Customs- Custom IEM, Single BA. One of the more affordable customs out there in the market. Gives you a wireless option.
